You wrote me letters in a language We hadn’t even made yet Filed them in a box beside Old phones and paper maps I tried to read between the fold lines Guess which promise cracked Every time I touch that cardboard Time just bends Then snaps Story of the past Future is unavailable Pages that we burned Memories untranslatable I keep dialing days that don’t exist Busy tone on every wish Story of the past Future is unavailable So I just stay here Stuck in this interval You circled dates on empty calendars Years that never came We planned a kitchen full of coffee steam And magnet-covered frames Now it’s secondhand silverware And dust where your keys should hang All those plans still hum in the drywall Like a distant train Story of the past Future is unavailable Pages that we burned Memories untranslatable I keep dialing days that don’t exist Busy tone on every wish Story of the past Future is unavailable So I just stay here Stuck in this interval I keep asking every morning “Are we done Or just delayed?” (just delayed) All I get is fading sunlight On the spot where you once stayed Story of the past Future is unavailable Pages that we burned Memories untranslatable I keep dialing days that don’t exist Busy tone on every wish Story of the past Future is unavailable So I just stay here Lost in this interval (this interval)
