Close Enough

We said “this time’s different” Like we didn’t say it before Same look, same silence Same door Your number still in my phone Like a song I never delete We don’t talk for weeks Then you show up in my sleep You say “I just wanted to check” I say “yeah, me too” But we both know the truth This ain’t nothing new If we’re done, why does it feel Like we’re circling back? If this is over for real Why does it crack? We were close enough To fall again Close enough To forget the end We were close enough To call it love But not enough To hold on to us I know how this goes Still I lean in We were close enough To say your name Close enough To feel the same We were close enough To break again If this is goodbye Why does it feel like then? Yeah... Close enough
