Playful Crush

[Intro] [Verse] You tripped over the curb outside my gate Looking like a messy twist of sudden fate I was busy watering the plastic ferns Watching how the afternoon slowly burns Now I am checking every post you share Counting every single ribbon in your hair It is a little weird I must admit But you are the puzzle where my pieces fit [Verse] I bought a telescope to see your porch Carrying this giant heavy golden torch I saw you dancing with a yellow broom Spinning like a cyclone in your living room I have got your birthday circled on my wall Waiting for a sign or a random call I am tangled in the wires of your charm Acting like a fire with a false alarm [Chorus] Oh I am sinking in the honey of your gaze Lost inside a sticky sugary maze It is a funny kind of fever in my chest Putting all my common sense to the test I am silly for the way you tilt your head Tripping on the clever things you said This obsession is a bright and bouncy ball I am just enjoying the long long fall [Bridge] Maybe I should find a quiet hobby instead Like baking giant loaves of sourdough bread But flour cannot whistle or wink at me And yeast is not exactly good company So I will keep on acting like a happy fool Drooling like a puppy by a swimming pool It is a comedy of errors on a stage Turning to a messy and a magic page [Verse] I tried to act so cool and so detached But then I saw our sneakers nearly matched I nearly walked into a parking sign Thinking about making your last name mine The neighbors think I have lost my steady mind Searching for the treasures that you leave behind Like a candy wrapper or a grocery list Adding to the reasons that you must exist [Verse] I have a collection of your funny jokes Written on the backs of old envelopes I am practicing my smile in the glass Waiting for the hour when I see you pass It is a goofy kind of magic in the air I am finding bits of confetti everywhere You are the punchline to my favorite day And I would not have it any other way [Chorus] Oh I am sinking in the honey of your gaze Lost inside a sticky sugary maze It is a funny kind of fever in my chest Putting all my common sense to the test I am silly for the way you tilt your head Tripping on the clever things you said This obsession is a bright and bouncy ball I am just enjoying the long long fall [Outro]
